| Purpose: |
To have fun playing tennis.
To promote competition and improvement amongst the members of the DATE.
To assist in ranking players that participate in the event we decide to have a group tournament.
|
| Important Dates: |
The ladder will run from May 23rd through August 31st.
To be included in the initial roster, you must contact the Ladder Organizer sgkelliher@gmail.com with your intent to participate by May 20th.
If you miss the deadline to get on the initial ladder, you may join late, but you will be added to the bottom of the ladder. |
| Ladder Structure: |
Players will be placed on the initial ladder based on their self assessment of their level (USTA level). |
| Challenges: |
A player can challenge up to 5 spots above him/her on the ladder.
If the challenger wins, he/she takes the incumbents spot on the ladder, and the incumbent moves down one spot along with all players below him/her.
If the challenger loses, he/she stays in his/her current spot.
A challenger can issue a challenge by contacting the challengee via phone, email, or in person.
A player can only issue one challenge match at a time.
A player cannot issue or accept a challenge match against the same person in succession, without 7 days having passed.
The challenger must give the challengee 48 hours to respond to the challenge.
A player cannot issue or accept more than one challenge at the same time. An issued or accepted challenge must be played before other challenges can be issued or accepted.
Both the challenger and the challengee will, in good faith and sportsmanship, work to schedule challenge matches.
The challenger will provide a new can of tennis balls for the match.
A challengee must respond to a challenge within 48 hours.
It is the challengee's responsibility to notify the challenger if the two are no longer within 5 spots of each other when a challenge is issued. We will not accept challenge scores for matches if the two players weren't within 5 spots of each other at the time of the match.
The players in positions 1 - 5 on the ladder must challenge up to 5 spots below their spot to give them an equal opportunity to play. If the challenger wins, there is no change in the line up. If the challenger loses, he/she takes the position right below the winner. |
| Match Format: |
Matches are best 2 out of 3 sets, regular Ad-scoring, and 12 point tiebreakers (first to 7 points). If the match is played using other formats, we will not accept the challenge score. |
| Scheduled Matches: |
Once a challenge is accepted, both players have 7 days to play the match at a mutually agreed upon site.
If a match has to be suspended due to court or weather conditions, players will note the score and resume from that score at the earliest opportunity.
Once a match time is scheduled, the USTA 15-minute default rule is in effect.
The winner must report the score within 24 hours of the completion of the match. All scores should be reported through the DATE website at www.denverareatennis.net. |
| Frequency of Play: |
Players must play at least one match every two weeks, beginning May 23rd.
Any player who does not play at least one challenge every two weeks will be placed at the bottom of the ladder.
No exemptions will be given for injuries. If a player is unable to play a challenge due to injury, he/she must default.
No exemptions will be given for work related travel. If a player is unable to play a challenge because he/she has to go out of town for work, he/she must default. |
| Grievances: |
The Ladder Organizer is responsible for enforcing the challenge ladder rules as interpreted by the Ladder Organizer and Rules committee.
Questions and grievances regarding the DATE Ladder rules should first be addressed to the Ladder Organizer.
In the event that a satisfactory resolution is not reached with the Ladder Organizer, matters of rules disputes should be brought before the Rules committee for a decision. |
